Neuropsychological evaluation
A neuropsychological evaluation is typically carried out in two appointments, over two days. The initial appointment will consist of an intake interview (typically an hour or so) where the problem is fully discussed and explored. Often it can be helpful for a patient to bring a support person to this part of the appointment. This can help reduce anxiety, and this can also help provide Dr. Howard with more information about what is going on. From the intake, a testing ‘battery’ is determined that will be most appropriate for the presenting problem. These tests are carried out with the patient only and this part of the evaluation can last between 4–5 hours (though this can go a little longer or shorter). Typically, it is best to set aside the day for testing, to decrease stress.
This first day of testing is a ‘work day’ in that no results are provided that day. A second appointment for ‘feedback’ is then scheduled that will go over all the results/findings in detail and outline a treatment plan. For the feedback session, patients can also bring a support person, if wanted.
A neuropsychological evaluation typically takes between 11–14 hours total. This is not all face-to-face time with a patient, consisting of testing interpretation and report writing. This can be shorter or longer, depending on the presenting problem. Dr. Howard from HeadsUp Clinic will be happy to give a more accurate estimation of time needed and answer additional questions, after a free phone consultation.
The fee for this service is $2,800 (including GST).
